RESOLUTION 05-19

 

ENDORSING THE STUDY OF A CONSOLIDATED

REGIONAL COMMAND AND DISPATCH CENTER

 

WHEREAS, it is the mission of Town of Taos. to coordinate regional planning, promote economic development, enhance communication, foster educational opportunities, and provide for the social and economic well-being of our diverse population throughout Taos County and the Moreno Valley of Colfax County; and,

 

WHEREAS, Town of Taos supports public safety in each of the respective communities and surrounding areas in Northern New Mexico; and,

 

WHEREAS, collaborative entities within Taos County and the Moreno Valley of Colfax County have come together to review the establishment of a state of the art Regional Command and Dispatch Center; and,

 

WHEREAS, the following stakeholders support enhanced emergency services throughout and within their respective boundaries: Taos County Sheriff, Town of Taos Police, Town of Taos Fire Department, County Wide Volunteer Fire Departments, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Holy Cross Hospital, PNM Gas Service, Kit Carson Electric, US Game & Fish, US Forest Service, Department of Public Safety (DPS), National Guard, and the State Police; and,

 

WHEREAS, a state of the art Regional Command and Dispatch Center will integrate these entities to enhance the operational efficiencies, response times, communication, safety for law enforcement personnel, utilities and the general public, all for the health and welfare of each and every citizen; and,

 

WHEREAS, the integration through the Regional Command and Dispatch Center will assist with quicker response times to emergency situations, such as, but not limited to: forest fires, power outages, natural disasters, and individual medical emergencies; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Regional Command and Dispatch Center will enhance the Quality of Life for people in these counties, improve telecommunication opportunities, and assist with economic development; and,

 

WHEREAS, the stake holders will share infrastructure to include, but not limited to, communication towers and radio equipment, and in doing so prevent duplication and additional costs of said equipment; and,

 

WHEREAS, mapping, medical support data, locations, technical expertise, and such resources will be shared and utilized by all entities with respect to safety and emergency services; and,

 

WHEREAS, the five (5) New Mexico Congressional Members of the United States Senate and United States House of Representatives wholeheartedly support the Regional Command and Dispatch Center; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Regional Command and Dispatch Center, under the guidance of a unified Board, will provide governance where all entities will have a voice and input; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Town of Taos does hereby support the STUDY OF A REGIONAL COMMAND AND DISPATCH CENTER FOR TAOS COUNTY AND THE MORENO VALLEY OF COLFAX COUNTY, to be established in Taos County, and supports our belief that the consolidation of all the above entities communications centers in one location will be of great benefit to each and every citizen in our communities for their safety, health and welfare.

 

PASSED, RESOLVED AND APPROVED, this 19TH day of  April 2005 at the Regular Meeting of the Town of Taos Council.
