RESOLUTION NO. 05-41

A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TAOS, SUPPORTING A REQUEST FOR GRANT FUNDING THROUGH THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO ENVIRONMENT DEPARTMENT SOLID WASTE BUREAU TIRE RECYCLING FUND IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH A TIRE RECYCLING FACILITY IN TAOS COUNTY, NEW MEXICO.

WHEREAS, the New Mexico Environment Department has set aside grant funds for counties, municipalities and cooperative associations for tire recycling; and

WHEREAS, Taos County and the Town of Taos have reviewed the ever increasing discarded tire inventory at Taos County transfer stations and at the Taos Regional Landfill; and

WHEREAS, Taos County and the Town of Taos seek to address this growing inventory of discarded tires through a tire recycling program; and

WHEREAS, The Board of County Commissioners and the Town Council have been informed of the need to properly dispose of tires and have evaluated this request by staff; and

WHEREAS, Taos County and the Town of Taos will agree to provide an in-kind match through facilities, equipment and staff; and

WHEREAS, Taos County and The Town of Taos are requesting assistance from the New Mexico Environment Department for funding to purchase the needed facility and equipment for a tire recycling project.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Town Council of the Town of Taos hereby supports the request for grant funding in order to establish a tire recycling facility in Taos County for use by the Town of Taos and Taos County.
