RESOLUTION NO. 05-42

 

WHEREAS, the Town of Taos Council, met in regular session on this 16th day of August, 2005 at 6:30 p.m.; and

 

WHEREAS, the median value of housing in Taos County more than doubled within the last decade and continues to rise; and

 

WHEREAS, a lack of affordable housing impact’s the Town’s ability to recruit and retain a strong, "essential" workforce, including, but not limited to, teachers, law enforcement, health care workers, and local government employees; and

 

WHEREAS, Vision 2020, the Town’s comprehensive plan states as major objectives that the Town develop and finance an inventory of affordable owner-occupied and rental housing and to ensure the availability of affordable housing for the majority of Taos residents; and

 

WHEREAS, the Town Council has placed affordable housing as a priority to benefit the citizens of the Town of Taos; and

 

WHEREAS, the Town Council has demonstrated their commitment to affordable housing by the adoption of a Town of Taos Affordable Housing Policy Act; and

 

WHEREAS, the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority (NMMFA) and Governor Bill Richardson have worked collaboratively to develop Invest New Mexico to address affordable housing barriers for citizens of the State of New Mexico; and

 

WHEREAS, NMMFA has developed a Workforce Housing Development Program where municipalities may apply for matching funds to conduct a workforce housing development feasibility study that can lead to the accelerated planning, financing and development of additional workforce housing in the Town of Taos;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Council that:

 

The Town is authorized to respond and apply to the New Mortgage Finance Authority’s Notice of Availability of Funds and Funding Application to conduct a feasibility study for a Workforce Housing Development Program within the Town of Taos.
