2022 Bike Rodeo

The Town of Taos and Field Institute of Taos present the 2022 Bike Rodeo along with Kit Carson Electric Cooperative, Taos Cyclery and Walmart.  We will be hosting the second annual Bike Rodeo to promote safe riding practices for our community youth.  This FREE community-wide event is for youth 17 and under and will take place on Sunday, June 12, 2022, from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Taos Police Department located at 400 Camino de la Placita.

The goal is to provide our community with a fun, safe, and supervised bike rodeo for youth and promote cycling for fun, transportation, safe biking practices, skills and fitness. Statistics reveal that many young people are involved in bicycle-related crashes. We need to find ways to ensure that our participants are better informed about road safety. We hope to successfully convey this type of message to the participants during the 2022 Bike Rodeo. Riding safely is fun.  This event will expose the participants to the skills they need to be safe cyclists.

All participants must complete required forms at the Registration booth.  All youth must be registered and accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Parents, please bring your children’s bikes and helmets as there will be a limited number of bikes available for youth to borrow so they can participate.  Bikes and helmets will be inspected for safety.  Free helmets will be provided for children needing a helmet while supplies and sizes last.  Helmets are required for all riders.

There will be skilled cycling activities, cycling games and Rules of the Road lessons provided by the Field Institute of Taos coaches and instructors.  A limited number of loaner bikes will be available provided by the Field Institute of Taos.  Two hundred fifty gift bags will be given to the youth completing the activities and visiting the booths and games.  Mayor Pascualito Maestas will read the Bike Month Proclamation.  Lunch will be provided.

We will have free drawings for thirty-one (31) bicycles for participating participants youth.  Booths promoting a healthy community are provided by the Taos Mountain Bike Association, Taos Youth and Family Center, Taos Police Department/Taos Police Bike Team, Taos Fire Department, Taos Alive, and Taos County Fire and EMS.  Event parking will be available at the Taos Public Library and Enos Garcia East parking lot/school administration parking lots.  For more information contact Judy Esquibel at 575-751-2037 or at jesquibel@taosgov.com.  Visit us at Town of Taos Events Facebook.
