33rd Annual Yuletide Tree Lighting
The 2019 Town of Taos Christmas Season officially kicks off with the lighting of our Town Christmas tree during the 33rd Annual Yuletide Tree Lighting Event on Friday, December 6, 2019, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Taos Plaza. Join Mayor Dan Barrone, our Town Council and the wonderful community of Taos at this annual event! Once again, we will honor our beautiful living tree from our local forest donated by Mayor Barrone and family as they place it on the Plaza.
Events include Welcome by Facilities and Events Director Mitch Miller, Invocation and Holiday Greetings by Richard Aspenwind, Taos Pueblo Governor and Bernard Lujan, Taos Pueblo Warchief.
Music and merriment provided by the Taos High School and Taos Middle School Choir under the direction of Joaquin Maestas-Manuel, Taos Academy of Performing Arts (A.P. Arts), Mystic Dance, LED Glow Show by Julia Fernandez De Maez and Jess Fitzgerald of The Body Shop, LLC., Danza Azteca de Anahuac, the Fiestas de Taos Royal Court, the lighting of the Farolitos by the Town of Taos Management Team and the Annual Electric Light Parade with participants from all over Taos.
At approximately 6:00 pm, Mayor Barrone and First Lady, Dan and Della, will welcome in the Holiday Season with a special Holiday Greeting and the Countdown to the Lighting of the tree and Plaza.
Bring the kids to visit Santa! Santa will be handing out 300 treat-filled stockings to children, once again donated by the Taos Optimist Club Elves. Let us capture your memories with a picture with Santa! If you would like a 4 x 6 photo, the cost will be $5.00 which includes a Photo Frame Holiday Greeting Card.
Edu@Work Café from Taos High School will be providing the Holiday Concession. The menu includes: Posole with Pork and Red Chile - $4.00 per cup or $7.00 per pint, Green Chile Corn Chowder - $3.00 per cup or $5.00 per pint, Pumpkin Rolls - $16.00 per roll or $8.00 per half roll, Chocolate Truffles (6) count - $6.00, Chocolate Whoopie Pies (6) count - $10.00, Various Cookies - $10.00, Homemade Tortillas - $8.00 per dozen and Coffee - $2.00 per cup.
Complimentary hot chocolate and cookies will be served.
Taos Plaza will be closed to vehicular traffic from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM; however, the Taos Plaza Merchants will be open to foot traffic. FREE event parking will be available at Loretto Parking Lot, Town Hall, and Taos Public Library. AFTER 5:00 PM all metered parking lots will be free. For ADA parking and for people requiring ADA access to the event, there will be extra parking on the area next to the McCarthy Parking Lot directly behind the old County Courthouse.
