Withdrawal of Candidacy
Please ensure your name and resident address on the Declaration of Candidacy Form are identical to your name and resident address as shown on your voter registration. To verify your voter registration, please visit the Secretary of State’s Voter Information Portal. You may also contact County Clerk Anna Martinez at (575)737-6380.
To become a candidate for the Municipal Officer Election, a person must be a registered voter and possess the qualifications specified by law and must be registered to vote on or before Election Proclamation Day, December 4, 2019 (§1-22-3-B). Pursuant to the Election Code 1-1-7.1, any qualified elector for the purpose of determining the residence of a person desiring to be a candidate for the nomination or election to an office under the provision of the Election Code, permanent residence shall be resolved in favor of that place shown on the person’s certificate of registration as his permanent residence, provided the person resides on the premises.
Each declaration of candidacy shall be delivered for filing in person by the eligible candidate or by a person acting by virtue of written authorization. The Town Clerk shall not accept for filing from any one individual more than one declaration of candidacy.(§1-22-7.D)
This is the only date and time a candidate may file to have their name placed on the ballot. Write-In Candidate Filling day is on January 14, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, the candidate’s name will not appear on the ballot.
Following are additional dates to remember for the upcoming Municipal Officer Election:
January 7, 2020 – Candidate Filing Day at the Town Clerk’s Office from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.;
January 14, 2020 – Write-In Candidate Filing Day at the Town Clerk’s Office from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm;
February 4, 2020 – Absentee/Early Voting begins at Town Hall;
February 28, 2020 – Last day absentee ballots will be mail;
February 29, 2020 (Saturday) – Last day for early voting from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm; and
March 3, 2020 – ELECTION DAY at Town Hall
