Burn Permits are not required for recreational fires that are 3 feet or less in diameter and 2 feet or less in height that are for pleasure, religious, ceremonial, cooking, warmth, or similar purposes.
Open Burning is allowed seven days a week from 6 a.m. - 3 p.m. (Weather Permitting). You must call Dispatch at (575) 758-3361 before each burn to verify there are no restrictions and provide your burn permit number.
Permits are valid for one week. Once submitted, a copy of the burn permit will be sent to the email address provided.
All burning must be attended at all times, failure to do this will result in suspension of permit.
The wind direction at the site of burning must be such that the smoke will generally be carried away from public roads and areas of human habitation and houses. All burning shall cease if wind velocity reaches or exceeds 10 m.p.h. Check with fire department dispatch or local radio for information on winds.
No natural or synthetic rubber or petroleum products shall be burned at any time.
All other E.I.D. and governmental regulations are also in effect when burning.
Permits is valid for a week.
The Taos Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Taos Code Enforcement Division reserve the right to suspend or cancel this permit at any time that public interest warrants it. If this occurs, and alternate method of disposal shall be used by permit holder to remove refuge. The holder of this permit accepts any and all responsibilities incurred with the burning allowed with this permit. Holder assumes full responsibility to exercise the utmost care and judgment before setting any fire. The Taos Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Taos hereby disclaims any and all liability of itself or it’s agents that might be incurred by the permit holder.
